Top 10 Hosting Services for 2011

We have discussed various web hosting options on this blog in the past but for the majority of websites and blogs a shared hosting solution is more then adequate. However, not all shared hosting services are created equal and there choosing the right host can have a big impact on your website's performance. A good place to turn to for comparing the offers from the leading webhosting services is web hosting rating.

The information at webhostingrating.com is up to date and you can easily find the top 10 hosting services for 2011 right at their homepage. What's good about their service is they allow you to compare all factors of a host and are not just focused on price. They rate hosting services based on bandwidth, storage space, customer service and technological capabilities. Another great thing is that in addition to displaying each host's price, in some cases they offer exclusive coupon codes which offer you a discount on their official rates.

Security as Primary Defense

The computer world has taught us many lessons in the aspect of security. First and foremost is the protection of our data and information from those who would try to gain access to them and use them to their advantage but would result to our personal or business harm. The primary defense anyone could provide themselves with is the proper security of the equipment they are using as well as the information found in them. Physical security would of course consist of providing the right place for one’s equipment. Whether in the workplace or at home, the best place would be that which is the least subject to exposure to unauthorized traffic. This would mean people that have no direct connection with one’s business, visitors and the like. This is especially necessary for equipments such as laptops, PDAs and the smart phones since they are obviously very easy to steal as compared to the bulkier desktop computers. It is wise to keep records as to the make, model and serial number of equipments and to place contact information on them to facilitate return when lost.

Securing what’s inside necessitates other forms of protection such as providing back-ups, encryption, use of difficult passwords, and the installation of a remote tracking device. The loss presents a risk that can be hard to quantify. Sometimes we have to lose something before we realize the importance of securing them.

Healthy snack substitutes (delicious and low fat!)

Do you miss your chips, your cookies, your Pop Tarts and cream cheese bagels? IF you’ve got really bad cravings and are ready to quit your diet and high-tail it to the nearest supermarket’s sweet section, stop. There are plenty of nutrition bars and healthy snack substitutes that will satisfy your tastebuds while keeping out the calories, the fat, and the empty carbohydrates.

Instead of those Oreos and chocolate chip cookies, which are full of sugar, sugar, and more sugar, reach for fig bars. They’re chewy, they’re sweet, and the fruit is actually healthy. But remember, stick to just one. They’re still sweets and even if they’re “better” they can load up the calories if you’re not careful.

Trade the potato chips (which have as many as 150 calories per ounce!) for the equally salty and crunchy air-popped popcorn. One cup will equal only 30 calories, and has minimal amount of fat. You can munch on that while watching your favorite show—and not feel guilty the minute you stand up. Other possible alternatives for that crunchy, salty flavor: baked tortilla chips, and carrot sticks.

Choosing a Scanner

Once, having certain items such as computers, fax machines, and printers were considered luxuries. Today, they are no longer luxuries, but rather, necessities. Most homes in the Western world have at least one computer. In addition, most computer owners own a printer, and if not a printer that is also a scanner, than a scanner as well. In fact, most printers today serve several purposes. They function as printers, fax machines, scanners, and photo copy machines. This means you can do a variety of actions from your own home. If you need to duplicate a document and send it by mail, you can, and you can also scan it and then email or fax it. The options are endless.

There are so many companies that create these wonderful products that it is difficult to keep track of them. It is also hard to keep tabs on the different types of products on the market, as they are constantly changing. One such item is the A4 colour laser printer. This printer is the A4 size and prints coloured laser pictures, which are much better quality than the old printers. There is also the A3 flatbed scanner, which is the A3 size and is a flat scanner capable of scanning a physical document onto your computer. There are many more similar products out there and it is important to do the necessary research before purchasing a scanner or printer. Otherwise you can end up with an overpriced, outdated device that will not help you at all.
