Healthy snack substitutes (delicious and low fat!)
Do you miss your chips, your cookies, your Pop Tarts and cream cheese bagels? IF you’ve got really bad cravings and are ready to quit your diet and high-tail it to the nearest supermarket’s sweet section, stop. There are plenty of nutrition bars and healthy snack substitutes that will satisfy your tastebuds while keeping out the calories, the fat, and the empty carbohydrates.
Instead of those Oreos and chocolate chip cookies, which are full of sugar, sugar, and more sugar, reach for fig bars. They’re chewy, they’re sweet, and the fruit is actually healthy. But remember, stick to just one. They’re still sweets and even if they’re “better” they can load up the calories if you’re not careful.
Trade the potato chips (which have as many as 150 calories per ounce!) for the equally salty and crunchy air-popped popcorn. One cup will equal only 30 calories, and has minimal amount of fat. You can munch on that while watching your favorite show—and not feel guilty the minute you stand up. Other possible alternatives for that crunchy, salty flavor: baked tortilla chips, and carrot sticks.
