The Taipei Financial Center or Taipei 101 is the world record holder in at least three categories: Tallest to the Structural Top, Tallest to the Roof and Highest Occupied Floor. It has 101 stories and reaches 1,671 feet high. The multi-use steel and glass skyscraper epitomizes a traditional Chinese pagoda with its roaring podium base, eight tiers of eight stories and narrow pinnacle tower and spire.
An 18 feet, 882 ton, ball-shaped damper located near the top counteracts swaying during earthquakes and typhoons. The damper is an enormous ball of welded steel plates hanging inside the top of the building. It is visible from the restaurant and bar which encircles the space around the ball. The building has the fastest elevators in the world and is one of the few in the world equipped with double-deck elevators.
