Technology improves lives but may have unexpected effects on the side. A classic example of this is the plastic bag scourge that has manifested itself in all parts of the world with no viable solution yet in sight. No one would have thought how such seemingly innocent-looking bags could affect us the way it did. It offered convenience which we accepted. It became a monstrosity when multiplied by the number of people that used it across the globe and when it was realized that it does not disintegrate harmoniously with the environment.
The most realistic solution at hand remains to be recycling and the use of reusable bags for shopping, but even this seems so hard to do. We have become so used to the convenience of plastic bags that reusable bags signified unnecessary delays so we postpone its use for yet another time. We’ll never know if next time will be too late.
