One of the greenest and most convenient forms of personal transportation is the electric car or battery electric car. It is perceived to be such because of its high energy efficiency, lack of exhaust fumes, minimized pollution if charged from clean energy and quiet nature. Its main drawback however remains to be the cost and availability. One important concern that has yet to be addressed directly is the limited one-time charge travel-distance thus the necessary consequences of charging times and battery lifespan.
Some car manufacturers are developing plug-in hybrids and battery electric cars that are expected to answer the problem and let the cars reach the mass-market. All is not lost for the electric drive vehicles as car manufacturers may yet discover how to overcome the obstacles in producing them.
