Plug-in hybrids are coming out as the most probable alternative to gas-powered vehicles. The infrastructure for it already exists but require several fine tuning to gain more appreciation.
The use of batteries instead of combustion engines promise to reduce pollution, increase mileage and promote energy independence. Works are being done towards developing an affordable lithium-ion battery that could last 100,000 miles and overcoming the psychological barrier of a scenario that makes being stranded with a dead battery very real. Plug-in hybrids are seen as the bridge between gasoline and pure electric vehicles. It would surely be a treat to see one rolling down the street.
