Various broadband providers are preparing to launch the “naked DSL” or plans that will enable users to bypass costly line rental charges. The expected market is primarily composed of those looking for an Internet connection without the added costs of a landline. At present, users are limited to either cable access which has very limited coverage or a slower wireless broadband.
The proposed plans are relatively more expensive than the current DSL plans but the advantage that is expected to be realized is to come from foregoing the payment of the monthly line rental fees. However, savings will not be equivalent to 100% of line rental.
