The long reign of the Boeing 747 jumbo jet as the world’s most spacious passenger plane has ended with the introduction of the double decker A380. It is said to be the most fuel efficient and quietest passenger jet ever built from inside and out. Singapore Airlines holds the honor of being the first airline to use it for a commercial flight.
The A380 can carry a total of 853 passengers in an all economy-class configuration compared to that of a Boeing 747 jumbo jet that can carry only 500 passengers. It is expected to provide the much needed extra capacity and greater efficiency for the busy routes. However, some analysts opine that it is an expensive way of addressing a small market.
