There is currently a new amendment being proposed to the present copy protection license that is currently being used as a warning on DVDs. The new proposed amendment will be unprecedented as it will now completely ban any kind of DVD backups. Another controversial amendment is the prevention of playing back a DVD without the physical disk being present inside the DVD drive.

At this point there are still no firm comments from the DVBD Copy Control Association with regards to the wording of the proposed amendment. If this is true though it will put a lot of unfair pressure on legitimate DVD owners who want to backup their DVDs for archival purposes.
