Virtualization is a hot technology today the lets you run operating systems on top of another operating system. This capability lets companies run multiple servers on virtual machines running on a single physical hardware.

VMware is the leading player in this industry, with Microsoft, XenSource and other virtualization companies trailing behind. XenSource has recently started to market enterprise-class virtualization solutions based on the popular open-source technology called the Xen hypervisor.

Virtualization simplifies management tasks of IT personnel because of less hardware to maintain, and a much easier and centralized way of controlling servers which runs on virtualized machines. Virtualization looks like a big thing that’s going to shake the whole computer industry in the not so far future.
