A Card that Truly can Handle the Heat

Handing out business cards are not just for passing on your contact information anymore, they are becoming more and more an actual marketing tool with a good eye catching design crucial for attracting attention. I remember meeting someone who worked for a company that manufactures a special type of plastic that is intended for use in firefighters’ uniforms. The material is remains cool even when exposed to extreme temperatures and is supposed to protect firefighters from close contact with life fire. When the person wanted to demonstrate the point further he pulled out his business card and a cigarette lighter from his pocket and placed his card directly in a live flame. The card remained intact and did not burn when placed in the flame but even more interesting, he handed it to me right away to prove that it remained cool and did not absorb the heat from the flame. I always admired his creative use of business cards and keep this little encounter in mind every time I need to design my own cards. While I am not into high tech material manufacturing, I do try to get creative with my business cards by taking advantage of the back of the card for more information. In my latest design, I placed a list of all my websites I have designed on the back giving new contacts an easy way to see what I am about.
