Thumb drives have revolutionized the process of data transfer in the last few years such that floppy drives now appear headed towards obsolescence. The same may be said for write once CD-Rs as well. Thumb drives have the convenience of the floppies in that data can be written and overwritten many times and still have the stability of CD-Rs where data is more difficult to corrupt.
Adding these two factors have given thumb drives the thumbs up in popularity among the computer driven set today. Add to this the huge data sizes available for thumb drives, (4Gb is getting to be quite ordinary nowadays) and immediately you see the advantage of dropping your floppy and CD drives altogether now.
